Matthew Price (ice hockey)

Matthew Price (born 29 July 1988) is an Australian former ice hockey player who played for the Newcastle North Stars of the Australian Ice Hockey League between 2008 and 2011 and represented Australia at the 2010 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.
==Playing career==
Matthew Price first played midget grade hockey for Newcastle of the New South Wales Ice Hockey Midget League in 2006. Price also spent three years on an ice hockey scholarship at the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan, Canada. In 2008 Price signed with the Newcastle North Stars of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). During the AIHL's pre-season he competed for the North Stars in the Wilson Cup tournament, held between the other three New South Wales based AIHL clubs. In his first regular season Price played in 26 games, recording nine assists. Price was also been a member for the Newcastle North Stars junior team in the East Coast Super League from 2009 to 2010 but never played a game.〔 Following the end of the 2011 AIHL season Price announced his retirement from ice hockey.
Price was first call-up to represent Australia in 2006 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2006 IIHF World U18 Championship Division II Group B tournament being held in Elektrėnai and Kaunas, Lithuania. Australia finished third while Price failed to record any points but recorded ten penalties in minutes. In 2010 Price was selected for the national senior team to compete in the 2010 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Mexico City, Mexico. Australia finished second in the tournament behind Spain while Price recorded a single assist in his five games.
